Default Dial up Connectivity

Problem is this

Phone line is nml 1/4 jack but has all 4 wires as the phone is a 2 line business phone. Phone has dial tone and can dial out, but my Dell 6400 w conexant hda d110 mdc v.92 doesn't get the dial tone. Drivers updated extensive search over past couple months any ideas here?\\

Sounds like a simple wiring issue. Only 2 wires are needed as I'm sure you are aware. Is the phone line digital or analog? Standard phone I take it?

Are you positive its not getting a dialtone? How are coming to that conclusion? It just won't dial out?

What happens if you connect a phone to the modem and the modem to the wall? Does that phone work?

Its a hospital. A two line telephone cord doesn't work in the outlet only 4 wire (same size). It is a business phone works fine(2 line) so im wondering if this is even possible.

modem is part of laptop so this is not possible

Ah, it is most likely not an analog line then and is a digital line.

There are very few analog phone lines in our clinics - it is all digital PBX and I would be extremely surprised if it was an analog line.

Also, be careful doing this on digital lines. The modem has the potential to be fried by the digital signal.

It will most likely be impossible. The mere fact you state a two wire RJ45 doesn't work tells me it is a digital phone line.
