Default NY Poker Lobby

I think I'm not the only NYC player that is absolutely sick of the current circumstances facing both poker players and club owners. Why can London, Paris, LA, Amsterdam, Barcelona, etc. all have functioning poker rooms and not NYC, "the greatest city in the world?" I didn't see people in the Aviation Club selling all their possessions to gamble more or mainlining heroin in their eye because their aces got cracked.

Now, I am neither a lawyer, law student, or some sort of policy advocate; I am just a person who believes in individual liberty and allowing adults to make their own choices in life.

Poker legalization would protect players and club owners from what recently happened, bring in tourism/tourist revenue, and provide a nice taxable income for the city/state. WHERE IS THE DOWNSIDE?

So here are my questions:

1 - is there currently a serious poker legalization lobby in New York?
2 - isn't there legal precedent with what happened with backgammon in the 70s?
3 - how do I cross-list this with the Legislation forum?

Imagine a club in Times Sq. or a giant Poker Loft in Dumbo! Let's make this happen - LEGALIZE IT!

-a freedom loving new yorker

Start organizing.

There are plenty of places with similar interests. What is the PPA doing on these issues?

As far as I know, there isn't, but there should be. I doubt a card club in NYC would bring in any additional tourists, but it certainly would attract some who were already here if it were public, legal and in Times Square. I imagine the games would be pretty sick.

As regards the present law, though, I wonder if you could open a restaurant/club/bar type establishment which had a cover charge, but provided well run poker games as a "free service" to its patrons.

The beach in AC is nice, but I have to admit, schlepping on down there for the 2+ hours each way stinks. Though it's a nice drive.

if NYC had legal poker I would move back there in a heartbeat, gladly paying the 12% state+city taxes that I am currently avoiding by living in Nevada

You may have more success searching for New York area poker forums. I'm not affiliated with this site, but I did some googling for "new york poker forum" and the came up on the first page: http://www.wnypoker.com/forums/

It seems a lot of the posters there play live, so it might be a good place to start.
