Default Stanley Cup Bet

First off, I hate hockey. I have never, nor do I ever plan to watch any hockey game at any level.
Second, one of my friends is a "rich kid" whose dad gives him enough money to feed a medium size family. He gambles with it.
Third, I have never ever ever looked at any hockey standings ever.

So: right before hockey season starts he asks if I want to make a bet on hockey. I say sure, what kind of bet? He says, I'll pick the two teams that get into the Stanley Cup. I say, wtf is a Stanley's Cup? Then he tells me.

I say, ok how much? He says $500. I say $1,000. He says ok.
He picks Buffalo and Anaheim.

I'm pretty sure both of these teams are still in because he hasn't come to me with the money yet, which he always does when he loses a bet.
Can anyone tell me if I'm in good shape or not? Do I have anything to worry about?

Thanks.

Both teams ahve to make it to the finals in order for him to win? Buffalo is definitely an odds on favorite to make the finals, but not so much for Anaheim.

They are both still in at this point.

thank you very much. so you think i'll win?

if the finals means both teams have to be in the Stanley Cup in order for him to win the bet, then yes.

Man, this feels like massive leveling.

If not, please introduce me to your friend.

Those teams are very good and have a great chance to make it but, even money bet?!?!? WTF

You clearly have larger than a 50% edge even at this point in the playoffs. Before the season I'd guess your edge would be around 90%

lol, no leveling going on here. he's just a degen w/ lots of money. actually right now he's in an inpatient gambling addiction rehab program. but he's still obviously going to pay me if he loses, and collect if he wins.
and yes, he does nothing but even money bets.
remember not everyone who likes to gamble understands gambling

As of right now checking a site for you real fast.

Buffalo right now is 1:1 to win the East.

Anaheim is 9-5 to win the West.

I defintely do not know what I am talking about most of the time, but this was a great bet for you to take, I know that much
