Really tough position obv...but....you only have your parents once and once your dad has passed, you will regret not doing anything you could have done, and you will reflect on it a lot....if there is any chance of being there for significant periods when he most needs you it will define you and your approach to the importance of family in the future....jobs come and go...parents go and never return...do what you can.

Sorry about your Dad. We find ourselves in a similar situation with my FIL.

I suggest you make a visit out there now, meet with his doctors and get an understanding of his treatment plan and prognosis. Ask a lot of questions about support mechanisms they have in place, (visiting nurses, medical transportation, etc.)

From there, you, your Dad, and your sister should be able to get a better idea of what your options are now and in the future.

Hospice is a good option, though normally reserved for the last six months of life.

After you get a better understanding of his porgnosis and get a plan in place for his day to day care, you'll have a better idea of how often you'll need to be traveling there.
