skunk,

I've done a lot of "play with kids" type stuff which I really like, primarily at an abused kids home and a homeless family shelter. I've also done some tutoring at both orgs like that and in regular schools (for friends who were teachers). I've done Food Bank work and serving meals at the soup kitchen. Also have done Habitat. Hmmmm, lots of random other things here and there (paint someplace, staff some station at some event, plant some trees, blah blah), but the previous stuff I mentioned was the most rewarding to me. Overall, I like playing with kids who don't have positive male role models in their life to be a really fun and rewarding thing to do.

I have a few friends who have done Big Brother/Big Sister. It takes a level of both regular time commitment and emotional commitment that I either haven't had or haven't been willing to commit. Some of my friends have had incredible experiences and love the program, others have had a very tough time w/ their kids.

Larry: I read a lot of books. I often read for about an hour every night before going to sleep. I also read on planes. I read all sorts of stuff. Mainly nonfiction and contemporary fiction/literature. Search for El Diablo posts w/ books in the subject for some book threads where I list tons of books.

jester: I haven't done any formal memory training stuff, just have a naturally good memory.

All: This is not an Ask Me thread and I will likely not answer many more questions asked in it. Answering questions about me is generally pretty boring to me.

about hte memory question... memory is about focus and understanding and enjoyment, they're all related. it's self learning, asking questions as you read and piecing it together with information you alread know. the better your framework of knowledge the easier it is to place more things into that framework, if your framework is shaky then new information will not connect with anything, it will slide away. a lot of the time people don't learn is because they simply aren't focussing their full attention on a subject.
