plus, given OPs details, I could get my fish fish and chips style. I'd still go with pork, but damn it I love fish and chips, even if you leave the chips out.

chicken should include all fowl like duck and turkey etc.

Now that certainly makes the category more appealing. Duck has some tasty fat, yup yup. Contrasted with duck, chicken is cardboard with feathers.

I'm still going with pork.

Obviously the correct answer here is pork, because then you can set your machine to "Infinite Bacon" and build yourself a Bacon Bridge to escape the island.

That being said, I voted for chicken. Beef has more direct variety, but chicken is mild enough that I think you can end up getting even more variety out of it based on the zillions of ways to prepare it.

I thought about running fish, but couldn't think of something I'd want to eat forever besides cod. I've already eaten enough salmon to hold me over for the rest of my life.

Pork is the obvious answer (and this comes from a vegan) soo much variety of flavors and types.

Bacon is very different from ham which is very different from sausage (which in and of itself has many varietys)and that is still different from porkchops.

I'll vote for mercury. Can I get fish with that?

There are lots of studies saying mercury is bad. There are lots of studies wailing about mercury content in fish. Funny though, there are zero studies showing that eating fish is bad for you. That's because it isn't. It's astoundingly healthy.

Herring please, and trout. I don't expect to catch many of either on a desert island, but I'll die happy eating them.
