Alabama vs Oklahoma State in the Independece Bowl starts at 4:30. I think its time to see how good this SEC conference is. OSU is a 2 1/2 point favorite. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that they have a great offense. Their defense is pretty bad though. As for the Tide, its pretty much the opposite I believe. Good SEC defense, with that pretty average offense.

I like the Cowboys in this one. But then again, I'm somewhat anti-SEC and will be rooting for them to lose in the majority of games minus the NC game. I'll admit my bias.

Oh and RU is on at 8:00 tonight. GO KNIGHTS!!!

Like saying Redskins vs Cardinals will tell you how strong the NFC East is.

Only way we get an indication of how strong the SEC is would be if ALA wins by about 35.

ALA could lose by 35 and it wouldn't mean a whole lot to me.
Playing with an interim-coach and a HUGE distraction about that situation.
Plus, you have an ALA team that came dangerously close to actually going 0-8 in conference.

Their 2 SEC wins were by 3 points vs. Vandy (trailed 10-3 at half, FG with 7 mins left to win) and by 3 points over Ole Miss in OT.

Actually for your example it would be Baylor vs Ole Miss. These are two post season teams. How can you compare teams in the post-season to bottom of barrel teams in their divisions?

ALA went 2-6 in conference. Very close to 0-8.

OSU went 3-5 in conference.

It's not quite the very bottom of the barrel.
But just because they made the post-season doesn't mean they are any good.

Both went 6-6 overall and ONLY were bowl-eligible due to some unimpressive non-conference wins.

Bama pulled UT and UF from the East this year. On top of games vs Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas. They did lose to MSU, which was MSU's only conference win.

OSU lost to A&M by 1, beat Nebraska and lost to Oklahoma by 6. I know neither of teams are powerhouses, but the SEC likes to say it is the best conference from top to bottom, so lets see it. Let your lower teams win.

A loss is still a loss for the SEC. I'm not dumb, I know this isn't the top teams in the conference but I want to see them prove it on the field in every game. Is that so much to ask?

I'm way more interested in the performance of all the other SEC bowl teams as far as determining conference strength.

This game practically doesn't count towards that end imo.

If SEC wants to claim domination then I think it would still be reasonable for them to 'prove it on the field' in every game EXCEPT this one.

Again, the only exception to this in my mind would be if ALA wins by 35 or something. Every other result really doesn't say very much about SEC strength in general or specifically SEC vs. Big 12.

Thats a very reasonable opinion and I agree as well. I'm sure that if OSU did win this game I wouldn't really put it up there with Houston winning or Penn State winning. I guess this game and the UK-Clemson games can be considered warmups for later in the bowl season. Of course I'm sure the SEC does not want to lose to an ACC opponent.

I really like this RB for Okla State, Savage, he really can push a pile when he needs to. That 3rd and one conversion was all him.
