Default WSOP PLO8 Level of Competition?

Anybody have experience in PLO8 at the WSOP? I'm thinking of playing the $1500 event on June 5. How would the level of competition relate to PLO8 MTT's on Full Tilt or Stars?

Link to the WSOP Tournament schedule is here

It's the first time they've run PLO8 for at least a few years (possibly first time ever). It will be one of the weakest fields in the entire series, but the first levels will be a huge crapshoot. By level 4 you will have needed to double up, so that only gives you so much time to sit and pick off the donks.

I'm almost positive this is the first time PLO/8 has ever been spread in the WSOP. I'm just guessing, but most of the live tournament circuit regulars would have very little experience playing this game. Even most of the internet MTT whizzes probably haven't played much. I'd speculate the field will have a mix of complete dead money donks, live tournament specialists playing double-up-or-get-out poker, guys more familiar with limit 0/8 playing very cautiously, guys more familiar with limit 0/8 chasing too many lows and learning that getting quartered is disastrous in PL, and some online PL0/8 specialists who decide to take a flyer on this event but have limited live experience.

Am I the only person who thinks this is going to be an absolute nightmare once people start moving in and there are side-pots and so on ?

If I was dealing I'd call in sick that day ...

I really never realized how abnormal a game it is, but there is a ton of plo8b action in Atlanta. I would guess that there will be at least a handful of guys from my neck of the woods that are going to play this event. the only difference being all their experience has been playing cash games.

As far as dealing the event, as long as the dealers have previous 8b and PL history, they should be fine. One thing to watch out for, as I have seen this more than a few times is that when you 3/4 an all-in pot, make sure that you get the dealer to quarter out what chips you opponent has behind, as I have seen the dealer just quarter the pot and kill the hands, forgetting that the rest of the stacks got in the middle too.

Happy hunting!

I'm not a dealer basher by any stretch, but a lot of dealers need help on the fine points in games other than HE. I played the Razz event last summer, and the first dealer at my table tried to deal a flop after 3rd street!

Good responses...gives me some hope. Best case would be many players that play the game as if they are using an aggro NL holdem strategy or just plain don't understand PLO8 math.

BTW, post incorrect regarding dates. June 5 is Limit O8. June 25 is PLO8.

I'm going to play limit O8 at oceans 11 casino in San Diego this weekend to get some live experience before I donk off my money in Vegas...

The problem is post-flop you are going to get stuck with your hand very frequently. Take an example hand:

2nd level, we are still at $3,000. We open AdQd4h2s for $350, and get 2 callers, one being the Big Blind.

Pot is $1,100. Flop comes Ks 3h 6h. We bet $900, and some other player raises pot. At this point we are forced to see a showdown, even though we may only have 3 outs for the high.

Either way, I'm excited and should be fun event.
