Raise cap in NL?

2/5 NL game at Harrah's NO. Initial raise to $10 by EP, reraise to $20 by MP1, reraise to $30 by MP2. (I know these are stupid raises, but EP liked to minraise and a couple of guys started minreraising him a lot.)

MP2 now claims that the betting is capped by his 4 bet just like it would be in a LHE game, even though the hijack, cutoff, button, and both blinds haven't acted at all and all initial actors have had no option to raise his action.

MP2 gets denied by the table/dealer regarding his concept of the rules and turns down the option of a floor ruling, but continues to claim that that's the rule at Harrah's NO and that he's had floor rulings to that effect in the past.

Is there any licensed/tribal casino in the US that actually has this 4 bet rule for NL? My reading of the Harrah's NO rules indicates that in NL raises are unlimited, but I can see at least one recent floorperson screwing up the ruling.

I have never seen a limit to the number of raises permissible in a PL/NL game. Some room somewhere having an excessively retarded rule like this would not surprise me though.

Honestly this is just uninformed and inexperienced poker room managers. I've heard people claim this before but later take it back once they talk to someone in the know.

I believe there is an exception to this in AC. Hopefully some AC people will chime in, but I am pretty sure by law NL is played by limit rules (# of raises etc).

I think the Bike has/had the cap rule for tourneys. The "no limit" in no limit texas hold em means both the size of the bet and the amount of raises.

No, they are are familiar with poker at the Bike. Just as a note after the third or fourth raise all raises need to be at least 1/2 the pot.

They may have had the cap a long time ago (2003 maybe) but if they did it went away quickly.

That would really suprise me. I know when I left there in 2002 they knew how NL worked. There were a couple of peopelthat thought half a bet should reopen action, but the people that needed to know knew how things should be.

In the old days who needed a cap? Pots were rarely multi-way and big raises (and certainly reraises) were the norm. Anything else would be viewed as extremely suspicious by the experienced player base.

But with the poker boom NL is a new game played by recreational players. Thus we need rules that are more appropriate.

IMO Hawaiian Gardens has the right idea. The minimum raise must be twice the total amount of the bets you are facing. Thus the minimum raise sequence is 1-2-4-8-16 as opposed to 1-2-3-4-5. Using their method there isn't any real need for a cap.

In AC the rule varies by casino. In most places unlimited raises are allowed, but one time in Caesars there was multiway action on the river and after the third raise I was not allowed to raise all in. It's a ridiculous rule and defeats the whole idea of no limit.
