Default If you need a payday...

Lets assume:

1. You have $1000.
2. You only play online and only at Poker Stars.
3. You need a big payday=> $3000 in profit.
4. You have only eight hours to invest.
5. You have average (minorly +EV) in all the games offered.
6. You do not care if you lose your stake.

What would be the best shot at at accomplishing #3?

Am I allowed to recommend BJ?

I would play a few $500 STTs should be ~hour each and
you should/can more than triple up.

Reccommending blackjack is stupid (not because it's -EV but because it doesn't offer the maximum EV). Start playing at stakes where your 8-hour edge will add up to $3000. If you fall behind your expectation while playing, move up stakes accordingly.

With the criteria listed, I don't know of a better option than a 9-man SNG in poker.

Or, you could look up basic strategy for blackjack and use it while betting it all two hands in a row. If you're going to do roulette, at least look for a single-zero table. Don't tip dealer or cocktail waitress.

Based on ALL of your assumptions, I would be thinking $5/$10 NL.

I agree with the STT/SNG's. Though my issue with the problem is if you NEED to have big payoff, then why would also not care if you lost your nut? Seems if you don't mind blowing the grand, any payoff under 3k would be acceptable as well.
