I'm new at the table, played maybe an orbit. No reads on villain, except that he's one of the looser kind.

Yes, I think this is standard and well-played. I play it the same. A lot of the time you'll see 2-pair or a set here so don't worry about it if you got beat by a straight. I wouldn't worry about the river card either and just go ahead and bet -- I don't think it's likely that the villain is drawing with a 9. Sometimes you'll see 97 or 99 here and that sucks, but more often you'll see something else.
