Default Stars account hacked

So I try to log into stars this morning to find that the PW has been changed. The email address to request a new PW was changed as I didn't get the email that is normally registered to my account. I emailed stars about it.

I was over a friend's house last night and while there he wants me to log into stars and transfer him money online for cash(just 100 bucks). I'm cool like that and I do so. I play for a little while on his PC, win some money, log out ,and go home. I made sure to clear my username and password (including the remember password box) from his machine.

I last logged into my account at 2 am today/last night to check my balance and see if there are any good games running. There weren't, so I logged off and went to bed.

This morning after finding my account unaccessible, I emailed Stars and to their credit, they had someone call me, talk, and freeze mine and all the associated accounts. Here is the follow up email:

---------

Hello Michael,

Thanks for your time on the phone just a moment ago.

As discussed, please find attached an audit of all the activity on your
account. I have highlighted the point at which the activity began. During
this time the following funds were transfered:

$2712 to player 'Jballer8804'. We have managed to freeze $2661 of these
funds

$6942 to player 'Centurian1'. We have managed to freeze all of these funds.

A total of $6665 was lost at our tables, this activty has been reviewed by
our Poker specialists and there is no evidence of chip dumping; meaning
the funds were lost to legitimate players and cannot be recovered.

As per our conversation, this activity took place from the main pc of
player 'bucky835', I would suggest that speak to this player for further
information.

-----------------------

Bucky is the guy who's house I was at. He obviously denied it when I spoke with him. Said he knows nothing about keyloggers/spyware/etc.

Unfortunately all the evidence points to him or someone from his computer. However, could there be a small chance he is a pawn in this?

Does anyone recognise these frozen account names as possible scammer accounts? Or offer any advice etc...

man this sucks.

Thanks all,
Mike

The frozen funds will be returned to me.

The $6665 that was lost sadly will not be.

I was confused about that at first. I think that they froze the money that was transferred to other players, but in addition, some money was outright lost by whoever logged on as him.

Edit: Oops, NM.

it sucks that you lost some of your money, and don't take this the wrong way...but it has been mentioned several times that logging into your account from a PC other than your own is a huge risk. i'm not saying that you're friend was the behind the hacking of your account, but more likely that he doesn't take the correct measures in protecting his PC.

Was your friend pretty pushy about you logging on with his computer to have you transfer him money? Did he seem at all odd about it. I have used keylogger programs before on my computer when I lived with a couple roommates. They would at night when I was asleep look at some pretty fed up porn sites and other shiat and my computer was always getting infected so I wanted to know who was doing it. Figured out right away which one it was since he would log into his yahoo email also and I had in the keylogger his info showing it was clearly him.

Really sounds to me that this "friend" set you up. I would find out who the money was lost to at the tables and see if he is associated with them at all.

I know that is its technically my fault that I didn't safeguard my PW well enough. At the same time, I obviously didn't know that there was some tracking device on his PC that may or may not have been under his control.

If there were just attempts at transferring money it would be one matter, but combined with the fact there was high stakes play on my account. 10/20 NL and 25/50 NL ...
(I don't play higher than midstakes 1/2 , 2/4 and 3/6 NL).

This kid is a bit of an action junkie and likes high stakes action, hence my suspicions...

Thanks
Mike

EDIT: He wanted me to login and transfer money(this was one of the main reasons I was over), and also said I should play some too.

EDIT 2: I've done this for him once before with no problems.

If the frozen account has extra money, they should give it to as well.
