I would have to agree that the EPT structure for this year is very very good, ok there only 60min levels compaired to 75 or 90 min levels else where. But it uses a schedule very simular to the WSOP 2006. The only level I notice missing between the WSOP 2006 schedule and the EPT sechdule is 250-500-50, however the ept does play 75-150 which I have not seen in any other event meaning that other than the jump from 25-50 to 50-100 the blinds never double in the rest of the event. Also the ante does not begin until 150-300, rather than the usual 100-200, some people prefer this others don't. Overall i think the EPT has one of the best structures around.

I thought Foxwoods was a relatively bad structure. It starts off with play, but I think it has less play in the later stages than a lot of other 10k events.

Main Event is still the best structure because of the 2 hour levels.

I think Borgata has a very solid structure and is always extremely well run. They also have shuffling machines. However, if one shuffling machine isn't working, no tables can use the shuffling machines, so early on, it's not too likely that shuffling machines will be used.

I don't play 10k events with "horrible" structures, basically all the EPT events other than Monoco Championship, the new Caesars Palace 10k, etc.

The new EPT structure was great.

"Middling levels" (ex: 75/150, 1,200/2,400 among others) with sightly less time (60min) > Longer levels with bigger jumps.

Actually the EPT event that we played recently had amazing structure, and the final table structure is even better because they don't change anything for the television broadcast.

[/ QUOTE ]

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it 15k starting chips, start at 300bb, and level 19 was 8k/16k with all levels 90 minutes. What is amazing about that?

Compare to say the LAPC with 20k starting chips, start at 400bb, level 21 was 10k/20k, all levels 90 minutes. Oh, and rake in LAPC $400 or $500 compared to $780usd for EPT Monoco.

On a positive note, the structure for the 2008 EPT Championship is improved (e.g. added levels such as 500/1000, 1200/2400, 2500/5000, etc.) with the same 90 minute levels, so I would now put this event at or near the top of my second group.

I have to completely disagree with you. It is not the actual numerical levels of the blinds that I think suck, it is the length of time each level is played, which is a part of the "structure" ---that sucks. If it were two hour levels rather than 60 minute levels, I would say great structure for an 8k euro event.

The problem is you reach starting chips in the regular EPT events after 20 hours of play, compared to 30 hours or more for the events I listed in my top three catagories. The amount of "deep chip play" (e.g. greater thna 100bb's) is even more lopsided. This means a much higher (quicker) bustout rate in the EPT 8k euro events, which is accomplished by playing at lower chip depths (i.e. lower bb multiples). In summary:

Low AS/bb multiple = rapid bustout rate = sucks

Finally, if you think 20 one-hour levels are better than 18 ninety minute levels (given typical structures), I think you are wrong, and I don't even think it is close!!!

In fact, I would take 10 two hour levels over 19 one hour levels, and the way things were actually implemented by the casino, you would actually play at a higher chip multiple, "on average", with 10 two hour levels vs. 20 one hour levels.

I didn't play either of the Foxwoods 10k events in 2006 due to bad structure. In 2007 they added an extra day of play and the equivelent of 4 or 5 extra 90 minute levels. Still nothing to brag about, but a big improvement from before.

The difference between 60 minute levels and 90 minute or 120 minute levels is HUGE.

I think the WSOP structure with 60 minute levels is OK for a $2k event---as you will get the crapshoot all-in fest associated with that level of rake; but this structure sucks for an 8k euro (11k usd event). Maybe if the rake were scaled waaaaay back it would be OK, but this is extremely unlikely to occur.

i dunno 60 minute levels didnt bother me since the increments were pretty good, 75/150, two 150/300s, 300/600 etc

Look guys, you have to look at the total time played.

If I gave you a tournament that takes 100 levels for BB = starting stack, but then only gave you 10 minute levels, would you be all over that, also?

The structure is just a function of how fast the blinds move up. Shufflers, and time there is for each level is just as important as the amount of levels there are.
