Default Stars Secure ID Beta

I got an email from stars asking if I wanted to opt into the secure ID. 99.9% sure it is legit, doesnt ask for my password or whatever, and from security@pokerstars.com.

As part of our efforts to keep customer accounts as secure as possible, PokerStars is introducing a new security feature. We have selected you for this notification as we are aware that your account contains a substantial bankroll, and would like to offer this new service to you ahead of the anticipated rollout date for the entire site.

In addition to your PokerStars password, we can now issue you with an extra login credential known as a "Secure ID". This is a randomly generated 7 digit code that you will be asked to enter each time you access your PokerStars account. The Secure ID will provide a secondary layer of authentication, helping to protect your account against unauthorized access. We therefore strongly recommend that you make use of this feature.

If you wish to be issued with a Secure ID, please reply to this email and we will then make the appropriate updates to your account and send the Secure ID to your registered email address.

PokerStars’ commitment to safety and security is second to none, so if you have any questions about this new feature or would like more information, simply respond to this email and we will be glad to address any concerns you may have.

Regards,
PokerStars Security Team

This is good news, even though I don't play at Stars. Took them long enough all the same!

Yeh, I have a secure ID. Some of the host accounts have one (I guess the original beta?) and we've been testing it a bit on people who've had an account hack. It effectively means your password is seven digits longer.

Are they only sending this out to accounts that have been hacked? I got the email this morning and have never been hacked to my knowledge.

I havent been hacked or ever even had a security concern.

It has to do with having a lot of $$ in your account I think.

I don't know about the current batch, but that's what we've been doing in the last month or so. I imagine this is just increasing the volume of the beta. I've been using a secure ID for ages now, not had any problems. I dunno if you'll have the same system as me, my only negative is that the ID is displayed in plaintext when I login.
