Default Not-for-Profit Association Start-up

I'm in the early planning stages of starting a non-profit association. I was wondering if anyone had experience with a non-profit start up? Any tips? Thanks

I played around with starting one in 1998, and then again in ~2004. They're a HUGE pain in the John David Booty. You need to account for every napkin and coaster, go through with all sorts of registrations in any state you want to raise money in, etc. Nowhere near as easy as it's cracked up to be, unless you intend on funding entirely yourself...

The immediate start up costs (website mainly) I could fund myself, but from there on I was planning on it being sponsor funded.
