Default The website T Shirt business...

Does anyone know about this business? - I think someone from 2+2 (Alobar?) started one.

My friend and I have some ideas, I'm curious about how to find a good supplier specifically.

Thank you - That thread doesn't seem to go further back in the supply chain than the finished product. I'm also curious about the up front capital/return of buying your own machinery and making custom shirts for people on the side too. It seems like a dying business in the age of cafepress, however.

Some friends of mine (in a band) bought all the [censored] to make their own shirts for themselves and others. The equipment was expensive, the paint and screens and light-sensitive crap was expensive, the electricity for the industrial drier was expensive, the process was slow, and the t-shirts turned out to be [censored] because they didn't have much experience making them. They sold the stuff a few years later and went back to buying from the experts.

I own exactly this type of business also, although we are working on making an actual clothing line (ie some branding as well). We also make hats, panties, womens shirts, belts, skateboard decks, etc.

It is pretty easy to get into. There is a lot of great information at t-shirtforums.com if you want to get started. The easiest way is to find a screen printer who does the work wholesale to you and you just sell the product. Once you start making money you can buy your own equipment if you like.

I own an apparel design/manufacturing company making women's wear.

We don't do t-shirts, but I can tell you its a fairly brutal market. Low cost of entry, lots of competition, difficult to reach your target market.
