Re: Official Brandon Webb Consecutive Scoreless Innings Thread
This thing is certain to start getting more attention. And if he gets closer to the record it's going to blow-up pretty big.
About 8-zillion times more exciting than the whole Bonds/Aaron thing imo. This streak rules! Drysdale's came at a time when the game was already pitcher-dominated anyway. Hershier's was really really freaking good obviously. Webb being able to do this when the game is pretty much as high-scoring as it's ever been is really incredible. |

42 consecutive scoreless innings as a starter is infinitely more impressive than a perfect game and a half or whatever from a [censored] reliever. This is and should be a huge story and is a great accomplishment. Webb for MVP, Cy Young, and the record <3 [/ QUOTE ] No way. Sure, pitching 7 innings in one night is harder than one inning seven times, but perfect>>>>>>>>>>> ;>>>scoreless, which far more than makes up for this difference. |

No one is saying the best pitcher in baseball is the guy who throws the most no-hitters or perfectos, but its a quirky accomplishment. I remember all the no-hitters I've been a part of, including the one perfect game, but I honestly can't remember many of the shutouts. Perfect is a lot HARDER than scoreless, which is why the record is >. |

I'd rather win a perfect game than come close to this record. If it were a perfect game vs. actually beating the record... then I'd have to think a bit harder.

A perfect game is only one win, and is largely due to variance. 42 consecutive scoreless innings is several wins and slightly less attributable to variance. |
