5 Card Tripple Draw hi/lo
What is the best approach for this game and where can I find inforamtion about it. I was playing a $2-4 limit game and it seemed very loose. Folks would raise then draw 3 cards?? I would have thought the best approach was to play if you only needed to draw one card? There was a $2 bet for the first draws then $4 for the last draw and then a last round of betting for $4. Any help is appreciated

Re: 5 Card Tripple Draw hi/lo
I've never heard of people playing triple draw H/L before. It doesn't strike me as something that would be a very good game. If you are using 2-7 for the low, then no one would ever scoop and that would make a very dumb split-pot game. TD H/L would be more viable using A-5 for low, as there are hands that have a chance to scoop (5432A, 65432, baby flushes), but I still would guess it's not a great game.

Re: 5 Card Tripple Draw hi/lo
More info needed. Are you playing with a declare? Is it A-5 low?
As Mr. Bayes mentioned, the game is better played with A-5 since it allows hands to compete both ways. Other good options are to play best badugi for low, and best four-card low, A-4. [ QUOTE ] I would have thought the best approach was to play if you only needed to draw one card? [/ QUOTE ] Conventional wisdom dictates only one-cards draws, since they will disguise the direction of the drawer. In a loose TD game where players are drawing multiple cards both ways, however, this is not always neccessary. IMHO, TD hi-lo is one of the better poker games... |

Re: 5 Card Tripple Draw hi/lo
There might be one potential scoop hand using 2-7 rankings: 2345A. As ace-high it beats some pair hands for low and as the 5-high straight it beats some busted trip draws or flush draws.
But I agree that triple draw high/low isn't a very good game. Even played A-5, low hands won't make straights or flushes that scoop very often. If people are drawing for high at all the winning high hand is likely to be quite strong. Maybe it it was played with 6 cards instead of 5... |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I thought of this after making my first post in this thread. Counting on A5432 to scoop or even win half, though, is probably like depending on scooping in O8 or stud/8 with 2 pair and a crap low. You're more likely to lose both ways than win both ways. |

If I were going to set up this game everyone would get two hands.

Re: 5 Card Tripple Draw hi/lo
We call it California Split. 5 card triple draw hi/lo, 8 or better for the low. This game is action packed!!! We play it in our 4-8 mixed game.
