Default Arizona State hires Dennis Erickson

web page

I have mixed feelings about this. One the one hand, I would have liked Danny White to come home and take a shot at building the program. Another better scenario was the McGinnis/Chow combo. I do like this better than Mike Price. The cons are, this guy is 59 years old, so he's no spring chicken and his only truly dominant program was at Miami. HE's also shown the willingness to jump ship after a short stay at every stop. The pros are, he's a big name, and has a lot of Pac 10 coaching experience, most of it positive.

Over/under on probation? I say 4 years.

I'll take it if we can win a title.

He's only really had problems at one school though, right?

As an ASU student, I'm pleased with the hiring.

I wouldn't have minded Mike Price, as I think he is a really good coach.

In my opinion, Erickson did a good job at Oregon State and at Idaho (considering the talent level). He obviously did well at Miami, but the program was already built up for him.

Basically, I don't know that much about Erickson, but I'm intrigued that ASU hired a big name.

The Koetter era was defined by mediocrity. The Sun Devils beat up on weak opponents, but struggled against top notch competition, particularly on the road (0-12 in California, I believe?).

We were hoping to get rid of Lane Kiffin.

Um...Oregon St was damn good when he left. One of the best defenses in the nation that year. If he'd have stayed, Oregon St would've been a force in the Pac 10.

I agree one detriment is that he might not stay long.

I like Erickson. I may even buy a Sundevil hat.

Imo, the Pac 10 just got a bit tougher.

He does have a penchant for getting some of the degenrates. But the degenerates he gets sure can play.

did he leave before or after they thoroughly demolished Notre Dame in that Fiesta Bowl

they kicked the Domers ass on the field both on the scoreboard and physically. I remember something like 6 personal fouls on the Beavers that day.
