Default Who was worst in foreign relations: Carter or G.W. Bush?

[ QUOTE ]
Former President Carter says President Bush's administration is the worst in history in international relations, taking aim at the White House's policy of pre-emptive war and its Middle East diplomacy. The criticism from Carter, which a biographer says is unprecedented for the 39th president, also took aim at Bush's environmental policies and the administration's quite disturbingfaith-based initiative funding. I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history, Carter told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in a story that appeared in the newspaper's Saturday...

This won't be close. The Iranian hostage crisis was instigated by the CIA's coup of Iran's Democracy. Carter had nothing to do with that, and he came far closer to bringing peace between Israel and Palestine than anyone since.

Its not just a matter of the Palestinians. Camp David greatly lessened the chance of large scale war between Israel and the surrounding Arab states. That wasn't a close call, that was a stunning achievement.

Not even close--GW has had the worst foreign policy this century and maybe even last century. Ideology, without merit usually leads to miserable failures.

I blame Ike--it was just a matter of time, as the warning signs were there.

And let Truman off the hook? He's the one that changed the Cold War from a run of the mill power struggle to a Manichean crusade.

This is true only in the most tenuous of ways and shows a complete lack of knowledge of the Iranian Revolution. The proximate cause of the hostage crisis was Carter's admission of the Shah to the U.S. for cancer treatment and his refusal to turn him over to Iran for trial and execution.

Besides which, we see what a wonderful job the clerics have done in restoring "Iranian Democracy" in the past 28 years. You'd have thought they'd have time to do that by now.

Independent of the orgin of the Iranian Revolution and the hostage crisis, I'm not a big fan of the way Carter handled the hostage crisis. He let an overt act of war go unpunished and allowed the United States to be humiliated in front of the entire world. This inaction led many to believe that direct threats to American interests abroad would be ignored by the United States.
