It's been years now but I used to love to play with the course designer (I even forget which software it was). I'd create ridiculous holes where if you knew where to play your shot you could cut huge chunks of yardage off (slopes FTW!).

Designing was more fun than playing imo.

bonds,

That sounds like a Golden Tee course. NTTAWWT.

Wish I was good at the designer and patient enough to learn, throughout my misspent youth my parents tolerated me making "golf courses" in the front and back yard, even though it must have looked weird to people on the street.

Also, Links LS gave me great appreciation for some courses I otherwise would have never had heard of, like Barton Creek (Fazio), Bighorn, and Pelican Hill. One thing it doesn't do well is accurately portray elevation changes. Having played a couple of the courses IRL, such as Troon North and Cabo del Sol, I guess it's just hard with that engine to portray large drops. It's only the massive drop-offs, like that one at Bighorn, that are very noticeable.

Off topic, but does anyone remember when Golf Digest had a 'design a hole' contest, where they gave you a topographical map (in the days before teh internets obv)? I killed dozens of hours with that.

I had to look it up. Golf Digest Armchair Architect contest, first ran in 1987. Tiger Woods, age 11, submitted an entry and (wtf?) didn't win.

The first golf game i played on PC was links, i think it was called links386 (at least thats the name i had in my PC) it was pretty sweet, and nice grafic for the time.

I have also played 3 different Tiger Woods on PS and PS2 2001 2003 and 2004.

2004 being the best here.

But when it comes to the best gameplay i have ever tried in a golf sim, it has to be the PGA tour 98 game.
This game had a great combination of difficulty of hitting, and the right amount of average puts per round and stuff like that.
Also great stats record , and the only downside, was the mediocry grafic.

I really wish the would make such a great golg game sim again.
Tiger Woods being too commercialised obv, but still entertaining though.

Loved this game. I can hear those birds tweeting as I swing.

Do you guys still play Links 2003? I downloaded the demo, but it bugs out when I try to play (it loads, just can't play).

I have friends who are still in a competitive Links LS league. I MUCH prefer playing live with other people though, so have never been one to like playing the mail-in solo rounds. Last year Evan and I kicked around setting up a league or at least playing online but he's too damned busy.

CrazyEyez, that's an old pic from Links386, the predecessor to Links LS. Takes me back but it doesn't do LS justice, which I think was first released in 1996.

I'm having massive flashbacks looking at those screenshots. I loved the sound effects, and trying to hit the clubhouse on the 18th hole.

More recently I've played TW03, TW04, and TW05. But the games are so easy on PC that I never did enjoy them that much. It just doesn't seem like golf when every shot you hit is perfect.
