Default Any Skiers/Snowboarders Here Ever Tried This...

Pic

That is Jamie Pierre setting the new World record for cliff jumps at 245'. After waiting 7 years for the perfect conditions, he landed upside down and went 6' into the snow head first. They dug him out and he skied away with no injuries.

You still get the record if you don't land? BS.

There is pretty much no way he stomps this though.

That's becoming a big debate. This same guy has hucked 80' - 160' cliffs before and stuck the landings. They said after sailing about 180' he started to turn upside down and couldn't control it.

Still, next time you're up on the 23rd or 24th floor of a building just look down and imagine hitting it with skis on at 30mph.

Is it even possible to land this? I'm pretty sure at the speed you're going when you land, there's no way your skis don't just sink crazy far into the snow. Maybe I don't really understand what kind of powder this must be, though.

Anyway, regardless of whether he landed it or not, I think he should get the world record. Falling 240' sans any type of safety equipment is nuts.

The only way landing something like this is possible is with a lot of dry powder and a VERY steep landing area. The landing has to be so steep that it won't cause a sudden and enormous reduction of speed.

Oh yeah, and he never wears a helmet either.

This isn't really skiing, it's jumping off a cliff with skis on.

I agree, although this guy has done his fair share of carving up the groomers and hitting the moguls too.

To put this in perspective, here are a few results of others' attempts at much smaller jumps:

"In January 2005, skier Brent "Newt" Newton died after jumping off a 50-foot cliff at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Paul Ruff, a former world-record holder with a cliff jump of 110 vertical feet, died in 1993 on a 160-foot attempt."

so this guys main achievement is not dying..... sweet

i'm not trying to be a dick, i like to ski and can appreciate guys who can tear up moguls/land crazy jumps but i think that many "extreme" sports are just extremely retarded

presumably anyone of us could have jumped off that cliff and lived so i guess i just don't see what talent was displayed here
