well needless to say id be convincing people to go play somewhere else. At those stakes (2/5 NL and below) you dont need any rake at all to run a home game. Ive run countless rake-free 1/2 and 2/5 NL home games before and have had no problem. Above that level (5/10NL+) you have to worry about security so you might need a rake. Plus people get more greedy for hosting such games. But you shouldnt be paying any rake for a 2/5 NL game, much less $5 a hand rake. I'd just get everyone to go somewhere else and play rake-free.

I played in a game the other night that was 5%, no max rake, but I think still easily beatable. Guys open raising to $200 pf in a 5-10 NL game, another guy 3 bet the river to $600 on a paired/3 heart board with a straight.

Im not positive, but I am pretty sure that even with the rake it is worthwhile..... I heard the 2 biggest action players were not even there

Only time we ever took rake in a home game (back in the day...the statute of limitations has obviously long since expired...), we took 50 cents on a hand of $10 or less, and $1 on hands higher than $10...up until there was enough $$$ to order some delicious food for everyone to split. Then no more rake.

Wow! That is one greedy host!

In my home games, food and drink is separate from the game. Food and drink is pot-luck and/or contributions.

No way am I paying that rake.
