Pokertracker, PAHUD, PosgreSQL, = Do I need a faster processor?
-I recently upgraded from 512MB or RAM to 2GB of Ram
-I recently set up PAHUD to work with Pokertracker, which I run with a PosgreSQL database. Right now running all this is taking up an average of about 99% of my CPU and overall the system is laggy. What do I need to improve performance? It looks like PosgreSQL is taking most of the resources. -Faster processor? (AMD 64 3700+) -More RAM? -Better video cards? (running 3 1600x1200s monitors on 2 dual DVI cards) -Different software setup? Sorry if I am stupid. |

Try the hardware forum.
An Opteron 165 (dual core) is about $150 and will be plenty. Are you autorating when you import? |

Are you autorating when you import? [/ QUOTE ] does this make a big difference? I have similar issues as OP but my system is 10 times slower... |

1.25 gb page file usage wow thts rediculious...somthing is hogging your recources, i dont think u need more hardware,u need to decrease the amount of software u are running...your processor & 2 gig of memory should b fine to run ANY software these days.
i dunno tho if you are tring to run multiple tables & databases, an intel processor w/ hyperthreading would better handle mltitasking if you are bent on getting new hardware. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes it really makes a huge difference. My poker tables used to freeze up when I was importing + autorating.. now I don't even notice pokertracker running. |

Don't auto rate while you are playing. I don't have this problem but I'm guessing that has to be processor intensive.
When I'm playing with 8 tables, postgres, PT, PA, and music/video my processor runs only around 30-40%. |

Are you having it import hands every minute? Maybe it would help if you moved the timer down to like every five minutes?

Make sure you are not auto rating yourself.

Re: Pokertracker, PAHUD, PosgreSQL, = Do I need a faster processor?
There are several things you can do.
Get the 2GB of RAM. Your page file is huge and that will slow you down, because XP needs memory to run all your applications, and it using your HDD instead. Your CPU is fine and likely the GPUs as well. If you have another PC, doesn't need to be a big bad ass one, modern CPU, 250GB HDD, 512MB-1GB RAM, install linux with PSQL, samba and VMWare server. Put it on your home network. Move your DB to it and install XP in the VM. Set your poker client to write the HH files to a share on the linux box. Run the VM with XP and PT in that. By doing all the "not time critical" operations on the second PC, your primary poker machine is freed up to run like a raped ape. |
