money vs happiness
What would you rather do? Have a job you hate doing, but you make lots of money. Or take a job that's personally fulfilling for a lot less. Basically this is the situation Im in. I have a job where I make a lot of money. Way more than I should. But I hate it. I hate what I do and 95% of the people I work with. And I have been thinking of taking a MUCH lower paying job because I think it may make me happy. I also have family I support to take in consideration, if I was single I would probably have already quit my job. Anyways wondering your thoughts on the matter. |

Do you love your family? If so, stick with it. If not, quit.

Re: money vs happiness
It's all shades of grey so details matter. How much less money and how much happier? Also, OP, considering you dislike what you're doing now so much, it's doubtful you are looking at your other possibilities objectively.
A better solution: find ways to be happier doing what you do now. It's possible to do if you look hard enough, even if it's just a matter of taking a deep breath and changing your perspective. |

Re: money vs happiness
I really hope my wife and kids don't end up being very materialistic, and get more enjoyment out of spending time with friends/family than spending lots of money on clothes/ electronics/ toys etc. I'd also like to be able to provide a great home for them, and put them in a position to get the best education possible, so I wouldn't choose to be lower class, but if it was the differance between working 40ish hours a week making a fairly good living while spending tons of quality time with the family and making tons of money working 60+ hours a week and barely seeing my family I'd choose middle class living.
