If you had to fire your gun in the line of duty, are you 100% confident that you wouldn't freeze up?

Would you feel at all disappointed if you went your entire career without firing your gun in the line of duty?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm 99% confident I wouldn't freeze up. That 1% is because I've never been in a situation like that.

I would not be disappointed if I never fired my gun.

Ok serious question here and this one really burns me up good....Why the hell do the police spend so much time trying to give me speeding tickets on the wealthy side of town (let's face it speeding 10-15 miles over is no crime) when on the other side of town guys are slinging crack rock and killing guys?

I mean it seems the cops give tickets to make moniez....hell, aren't i the guy paying your salary after all? who cares if my license plate is a month overdue or if i do a rolling stop. Its not serious crime.

Also, why do cops give me these tickets and then have the balls to call my house asking for donations to the police dept? R they just insane? What they need donations for when they make a damn fortune giving tickets?

[ QUOTE ]
1) Are there instances where you have let someone go without a ticket for speeding?

2) If someone had a really good reason for speeding, do you let them go?

3) What are the best ways to conduct myself or best things to say when an officer pulls me over so I can avoid getting a ticket?

[/ QUOTE ]

1) Yes, I don't cite everyone. If I would, it would probably be for "obedience to traffic control devices." And I'll only stop someone if they are going at least 16mph over the speed limit.

2) Depends on the reason, but yes I would.

Edit: I've let a guy go after running a stop sign because his dad just went to the hospital in an ambulance.

3) Just be honest. I don't know if there is anything you can do to avoid getting a ticket except for don't do anything to get stopped in the first place. If an officer stops you, he probably already has an idea of what he wants to do.

I was not aware of it at all, but only a small % goes to the dept. The rest goes to the state.

I really don't know why they work on speeding as compared to the drugs, but my only guess is that drug work is time consuming working undercover or with confidential informants. For traffic, police can be out there and it doesn't take much to park and watch.

I don't know anything about calling houses looking for donations. We don't do that in my area. There is no fortune to be made in citations.

And before anyone asks, there are no such things as "quotas."

My area is pretty laid back. Most crimes are criminal mischief, harassment, disorderly conducts, traffic...

I can assure you that nobody is that loopy.

Some of the things we deal with aren't even crime related. I've opened a ton of lock car doors. I never had one I couldn't do. Dead people, medical emergencies...

Does your station have an Internal Affairs specialist? How does he get along with the other officers?

No, my dept is very basic. The only thing we have other than police officers and the chief is a lady who is our secretary who also fills in as the parking enforcement.

There is comraderie between the guys, but if there are any problems, they are dealt with internally. I don't personally go out, but some guys do. Some are members of a local club.

I'm the only one still in school, but everyone else has their own job. Some are Full-Time prison guards, others work for the sheriff's office. Some talk about guns, go shooting at the range, but I don't really think it's like a groupie type of thing.

Salary around my area runs in the 32k starting range, and goes up to around 40k or so, but that's for full-time.

I currently make $11.50/hr, which isn't much. Full-timers start out at $15.09.

I carry a S&W M&P .40.
