Re: I cant help not tilting at 10-100x my regular stakes
I don't agree with those who give advice like "poker is not for you and you should quit" or anything similar. Nonsense.
You can work on your brains dude. You can improve on anything if you put your mind into it. You must treat your brains like an extremely demanding muscle. Feed your head dude. Never give up. Learn to identify the feeling you get when you start to tilt and defend accordingly. Review your bankroll, make a long-term plan and stick to it. You can learn not to tilt. It's hard work but it's worth it. Good luck. |

[/ QUOTE ] Though this is true, neuroscientists have good reason to believe that emotional control is highly dependent on the development of a specific area of the brain, and that if this area is not stimulated during a critical period in childhood then it will always be underdeveloped. So, for some, it may be much less true than for others. |

I believe that, while getting angry is an emotional issue that OP may or may not ever be able to get a good rein on, OP can train himself not to move up in stakes. Best advice I can offer is to set a stop-loss, and stay firm with it. Granted, stop-losses and win-stops are not used by most professionals, but using one will give OP a "cheat" as he works on gaining the self control not to move up in stakes. I personally can't relate, as I very rarely tilt for very long. I had to work on a similar problem though, which was a very bad desire to gamble while drunk. I've recently began giving my laptop to a trusted friend when I'm going out for the night, and retrieving it in the morning. |

Re: I cant help not tilting at 10-100x my regular stakes
I dont think you should give give quite as easy as what others are say.
Its just discipline at it can be learned. Everyone has moments of madness (check my post of donking my whole bankroll away on blackjack) but you can get over it. Read the stories of guys like Mike Matusow and Scotty Nguyen- they talk quite openly about problems they used to have in donking away their bankroll irrationaly, mostly on gambling in casinos. Perhaps it may have to do with the disassociation of money with emotion that is needed to play good poker, or maybe its the nature of the type of people who are attracted to playing poker, but youre not alone. Speaking as a man who currently has no bankroll from betting it all away, im taking a break from the game. I will continue to read and study the game, and when Im less busy in life, I will go back to grinding and I am 100% confident I will make back my losses. Only you can sort things like this out in your head, but people have done far crazier things than you, gone bust, and managed to bounce back. If your game is good, then keep your confidence, take a break, and go back with a new discipline to the tables. |

Re: I cant help not tilting at 10-100x my regular stakes
Either have self control NOT to move up when running/playing bad or stop playing poker all together, for you are destined to bust in the end moving up in that mindset. If you have to take a short break for a week or so and come back and see if you can just grind through your losses at "your" limit. If you are going to play higher EVER EVER EVER as a shot - do it on a day you are mentally great, running even better, and have a set amount you are willing to stop if you lose - definitely never ever ever when you are chasing a loss from a much LOWER limit!!
Bottom line, you have to stop this behavior, there is no way around this... |

Re: I cant help not tilting at 10-100x my regular stakes
chasing losses os the quickest way to tap out your bankroll and end poker all together. you want to chase your losses move DOWN. the games less tricky and your wagering less. this is hard for most people but when your running bad if you don't move down then you won't be there for when the game gets better. first off you have to take a break go for a walk hit a few golf balls smoke a cigarette or better yet a cigar and just reax. the game will be there whenever you come back. and once the money is gone dont think of it as what was yours just think of the point your at now and just make good decisions.

Have you considered keeping less money on the site. Kind of tough if you live in the U.S., but otherwise keep your whole roll in Neteller or something and just enough to play your correct stakes on the site.
