Ron Paul\'s Running Mate
This is a little hypothetical, so we're going to have to assume the following 3 things:
The date is Mid-January to Late-January. (After Iowa, Michigan, and Nevada for sure. Possibly after South Carolina & Florida) Paul has done better than expected in the states that are finished (2nd/3rd/4th). Clinton is running away with the Democratic nomination. ------------------------------ The field is starting to narrow, because the tier 2 guys have for the most part dropped out. Paul is still in the race, but behind. By doing nothing, it looks like a Guliani/Clinton race for the presidency. It's here where he leaks the name of his running mate: Barack Obama. What happens now?

I admit, this is a SUPER SUPER long shot. I thought of it based on the following ideas:
It's Paul's show. There's no way that it goes the other way around. Paul wouldn't "buy-in" to Obama's platform enough to be VP. Obama's been talking the whole campaign about reaching out to the other side and finding common ground to work with. Suprisingly (at least to me), there is a LOT of common ground between Obama and Paul. Even on this board, most polls end with Paul #1 and Obama #2. Paul's ideas will require a LOT of manuvering to pull off, which I think Obama is the best qualified for. Paul may have grand ideas, but he's not CRAZY. He can set in motion his foreign policy, but there's still a LOT of work to be done from the social angle. This seems to be what Obama is most concerned with, and his plans coincide suprisingly well with Pauls. (Transparency in government, searchable databases for funding) Obama's VP experience gives him an almost free-ride into the White House when Paul's done. (Unless the Paul administration is a total failure) I STILL have not met a single person who wants to vote for Hillary. The election could be touted as Status Quo vs. Real Change. Besdies, they used to run with people from the other party all the time, didn't they?

They have (a lot of) differences in how they think that things must be changed, but the underlying message is very similar. Stop special interests, get the people more involved, transparency in government, etc.

But there's more that they agree on. Student Loans, tax breaks, transparency. If Obama REALLY wants to find common ground, I think that he's got a LOT more in common with Paul than any other GOP candidate.
