it's beyond any remote possibility to think that a lawyer hired by George Clooney couldn't figure out what I figured in 30 seconds from google.com. assuming Clooney would in fact contact a lawyer about this situation, it doesn't look so good for this story.

my money is probably on "bs story with some grain of truth to it"

FYI, common law marriage in one state usually means common law marriage in all states. So if they were spending a great deal of time at his homes in X, Y, or Z then maybe she qualified for common law marriage in that state, but was using the marriage laws of CA to her favor.

hmm well futher research on Wiki says that the "putative spouse" clause may be able to be used here if she thinks they were married. sounds like a stretch though.
