Default Life Moments - A Trip Report (with pics)

So 'Chair's birthday was in July and as my gift to him, I got the two of us a stay in Chattanooga, TN. We reserved a room in a bed & breakfast overlooking the Tennessee River called the Bluff View Inn.

Saturday we checked in and were greeted with a cold bottle of awesome champagne in our room, and that night we had a badass dinner at the Back Inn Cafe. For appetizers, we ordered frog legs and shrimp flatbread with bacon, tomatoes, pesto, and mozzarella. Both were delicious! For the meals I got the red snapper with lobster risotto, while 'Chair ordered a steak with lobster butter and a white truffle potato pancake. Everything was absolutely superb. We had a glass of viognier apiece and then Kettle One and waters with lime. We sat outside with a view of the water and the entire city.

After dinner we bought some Makers Mark and got iced coffees at this quaint coffee shop in the art district where we were staying. We mixed the coffees + Makers + half and half which was a glorious concoction. We wandered across this ENORMOUS foot bridge over the river and there were several live bands playing on the river's edge. The whole downtown area was lit up and the view and company were amazing.

After this we hit up several bars downtown and enjoyed each other's company as always. At some point we caught a cab back to the room but 'Chair detoured us to the artsy area overlooking the river that has random sculptures and various artistic structures scattered throughout some beautifully landscaped grounds. Being the attention whore that I am (ha ha) I run into a random gazebo and demanded that he take a picture of me.

Next, he countered with a request for me to take a photo of him. I agree and back up and am screwing around with the camera and flash and snap a photo of him.

Only then do I realize - what the hell is he doing on his knees? And what is that shiny thing in his hand? So I approach him in my confused and slightly drunken mindframe and realize he's holding a ring in his hand.

"Be my wife."

WTFOMGWTFOMG.

I am absolutely elated as the ring magically floats onto my finger (neither of us remember how it actually got there) and I'm jumping up and down.

We call our respective parents to share the news. My mom, upon answering the phone, admits to me she was in the process of rolling a fat joint (WTF we do NOT speak to each other this way). 'Chair's parents are more appropriately asleep. Everyone is thrilled.

He admits to me that he has had the ring SINCE MARCH, and has told no one about it, and was waiting for the right moment. Boy, do I feel like a bitch for all the ring comments I've made in the past 6 months!

Everyone is thrilled and I am out of my mind with shock. I think it's safe to say that this has been the best Labor Day weekend of my life.

Please forgive the redeye and anything nonsensical as I'm a little buzzed.
