Default donking it with bottom 2 pair

2nd hand at table I have no reads.
6 people to the flop, there was no raise preflop. I'm in small blind with J9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Flop is A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I donked the flop but looking back I think I should have checkrasied, which is the better play here?

It's not a donk because there was not a raise preflop. You definitely want to bet this flop as your hand value could change easily with the coordinated nature of the board. You can't count on a c/r. Letting it get checked through would be pretty bad.

scp, what are you wanting to accomplish? are you looking to get value or to protect your hand?

edit: scpi, the reason Im asking this is because its important for YOU to be able say what you were thinking so that your thought process can be critiqued (indeedy, it is possible to press the right button but have the wrong logic for doing doing so etc etc)

I bet the flop hopeing 1 or 2 people had an A and would raise my lead out. That's why I thought the c\r would be better because any A is betting this flop. I never considered checking and having it checked through.

bet. next.

fwiw, i'm guessing you lost the hand given your results orienting tone. do you think an ace is folding to a c/r on the flop? Do you think an OESD will ever fold to action on the flop?

It was only the 2nd hand at the table so i had no reads. I figured an A would have bet if I checked (6 handed I assume someone limps with an A).
