Default over/under on november elections

My friend suggested that the democrats are not going to win many if any seats in the fall. I made a proposition bet with him-- he wins if the democrats take two or less seats, I win if they take 3 or more. Who is the sucker here?

Is the bet on the Senate, House or Congress?

Historically, the opposing party to the a lame-duck President in his second term gains seats. Seeing how Bush's approval ratings are still low, you can expect the Democrats to do decently well. I would not bet on them taking either the House or the Senate away from the Republicans, but they will definitely gain seats in both chambers.

Both combined? Your friend is betting with his heart, not his head. Raise the stakes as much as he will let you.

it's my understanding that voter suppression in 6 key states will probably sink our chances at the Senate but I'd say 3 seats isn't too unreasonable.

voter suppression = keeping people from voting twice.

Actually:

Republican wins close race = voter suppression
Democrat wins close race = people speaking their mind, throwing the bums out of office, etc.

Dang I agree with Elliot on something. The dems are by no means certain to take either house or both, but have a reasonable chance to do so. And if you look at current polling the repubs have a lot more tossups or merely leaning their way than the dems do in both houses, and despite having to defend fewer seats in the senate. I would def up the stakes with this bet.
