Default I always feel lost here

Live 12-24, 9 handed.

Villain in this hand ranges from being a decent player who pays off a little bit too much, to a total drunken lagtard. Right now he's closer to the former than the latter, but he is pretty stuck and has definitely had a few drinks. I think he could be opening a bit light in this spot.

He views me as a tight, solid, non-tricky player.

PF: villain raises first in from MP (3 off of the button), it folds to hero who has A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] on the button.

Call, fold, or 3-bet? This is a pretty easy laydown against a tighter player (since the raise is a bit early for a steal), but this guy could certainly be opening light here, especially since HJ and CO are reasonably tight.

So I call (worst of the 3?) and the flop comes Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Now what? Villain will bet pretty much every time if I check, and it'll probably be tough to shake him off of a PP unless the board comes pretty scary. I might be able to get him off of a better A high, but even that is going to get expensive, since he's got position and can just revert to calling down.

So I mucked, but felt dirty about it. If I defend from the BB with hands like this but always let it go when I miss, am I just bleeding chips? Should I only be defending here with hands that I like enough to put some pressure on my opponents?

i 3-ball and fire away from sb, bb, button against given opponent... on given board i like turn c/r a lot with your image assuming you are in bb, if he checks behind turn i wouldnt bet a missed river - i would expect it to go to showdown with A-big high or any pp... i typically like blitzkrieg against those susceptible to tilt/drinking etc, i.e. the 3-bet light and push

I'll never call with this hand here. Whether I raise or fold is one of those it depends questions. On him, on how hes palying, on how hwo the blinds play.

God I'm an idiot, and it's too late to edit my post. I was in the big blind, not the button. Even I'm not dumb enough to just call here on the button. Sorry folks.

Villain was Shaun, the dealer/floor. He was off-duty and had had a few drinks in him, was pretty stuck from playing 4-8, and had just taken a few hits in first first few orbits at the 12 game.

he probably respects you as a tight player and from what I remember he will fold if he thinks he is beat. (as opposed to always calling down) would you agree?

what do you think his range is?
55+, KJo+, A8o+

Either c/r bet turn and c/f river or c/f now for me. I just c/f.

If you were on the button, it is a toss up between raise and fold. No big deal folding here, keeping yourself out of trouble with an easily dominated hand, but calling entices action from the BB, so threeballing if you play is better to make it more likely ace high will win.

Your case of being in the BB, I think folding is the worst option, folding here is way too tight. Threebetting may take the initiative, but by threebetting, you basically have the worst hand in your threebet range, so I dislike that as well. I like calling, and checking flop, and peeling, and seeing how he reacts on the turn....

This is my line.

PF: 3-bet

Flop: lead out if raised just call

Turn: c/r if raised fold. if he checks c/f river UI. If he just calls I'd c/c river UI

I thought about taking a hyper-agressive line like this, but what happens if he's got something like JQs or 88 and decides to get stubborn? He'll probably call the flop and bet the turn when checked to, and might even bet the river after the turn check-raise. If this happens, you've just paid 5BB to show down A high. I suppose it would be good for image at least.
