The WPT exclusivity with the MGM Mirage casinos was one of the sticking points of the WPT lawsuit brought on by the Lederer/Full Tilt group. Full Tilt wanted to produce their own poker shows but the casino pickings were slim. They settled with the Red Rock for one of their tournaments.

Just wondering why the South Point is the place of choice for filming the two biggest stand alone poker shows? It doesn't sound like the best casino from what i have read in B+M, maybe they just have alot of free space to host tv sets.

Any ideas?

its a private TV set, it could be hosted anywhere that poker is legal - location doesnt matter.

Interesting thing I heard about this the other day hearing an interview with a NASCAR Driver. His family owns the South Point. They used to own a bunch of casinos with the Boyd Group, but then sold their stock and opened up South Point. The race team has not won in a few years... I think the name is Ganns?

The WPT exclusivity is interesting, had not heard that.

The producers might be getting paid by the Southpoint or at least free rooms for the whole crews and players if they want them. The south point does get a lot of advertising out of the deal. I really doubt it matters to the producers where they film, it is just a ballroom full of props. They just want the best deal.

Many times the production costs are cut...depends on what property and what Union they have to deal with....some cost more than others

I just assumed the South Point gave the producers of HSP the best deal in return for using their location. South Point gets a ton of advertising from the show. Just count how many times they show the casino and how many times Gabe and AJ say "South Point" next episode.

I wasn't aware of the WPT contract issue but all that would do is make it easier for a property like South Point to buy the HSP location. If you take out the Vegas casinos with WPT events and exclude the Harrah's properties assuming they have some sort of agreement with ESPN then it really thins the competition for hosting the show. Where else has it been filmed, Golden Nugget I know but wasn't it somewhere else one season as well?

it was also at the palms....they shoulda had it there, the palms had the best waitresses....as opposed to the ones they have this season, which are the worse.

I know for sure one of the waitresses works at the Bellagio so they arent using house waitresses.

The Gaughan family is well-known in Las Vegas. Michael Gaughan (Gone) is the son of Jackie Gaughan, who is a true pioneer of gaming in LV along with Sam Boyd and Bennie Binion.

Michael Gaughan owned all of the Coast Casinos in town then sold out to the Boyd Group. His most notable casino was the Barbary Coast which was sold to Harrahs and renamed "Bills".
