Re: Playing 88 in a vacuum
Why do you donk turn? I would let UTG bet A-high again.

First hand, no reads. [/ QUOTE ] Should I assume that unknowns bet too much in this spot? Also, should I have c/r the flop? |

Re: Playing 88 in a vacuum
I don't know what average 2/4 players are like so I can't really judge the action but IMO you are certainly not too passive here.
I don't mind the turn donk since two players called UTG's flop bet. If he has no pair there's a good chance he'll check it and button is not looking too keen on his hand. So I don't think it's too bad to bet the turn and river, and I think you should probably fold if you get raised. If it were HU on the turn I would check-call and then maybe donk the river or maybe check-call again. If the turn checked through I'd bet the river and expect to get looked up by A-high a fair bit. Re: Playing 88 in a vacuum
Raise the flop. That way you save having to play the turn in such a way. What if a king comes off on the turn? You've gotta get your money in good, the button looks loke he will call all day so dosen't seem like a threat to me. You are ahead a big ammount here so raise the flop and let them pay to see the overcards.
If you get 3 bet on the flop then it gets tough. You can maybe get away cheap, player dependant of course. |

I play it the same.
Not sure if I can say why, I think it's best, though. |

[ QUOTE ] First hand, no reads. [/ QUOTE ] Should I assume that unknowns bet too much in this spot? [/ QUOTE ] Not IMO. I cant see why you can ever expect villain to bet his A high, K high and other hands that missed the flop. [ QUOTE ] Also, should I have c/r the flop? [/ QUOTE ] I would consider c/r'ing the flop. You are ahead of the fish always and you are mostly ahead of UTG. Given that you didnt c/r the flop I like the turn bet. BTW I always 3-bet preflop here. You have an equity edge and a 3-bet out of BB gives folding eq vs 99% of villains. I am sure Apanage shows up telling you to only 3-bet AA and KK here tho. |

Re: Playing 88 in a vacuum
You could c/r the flop, but your line is fine I think. Unpaired As and Ks are going to check the turn a ton on this board, and BU's range is likely to be pretty wide, even after the flop call.
