Default Give me a situation when you min-raise...

Im just curious if I can find a situation where it could actually be the right play in SSNL.

Even though I generally want to strangle kittens when I see it done I'll give you the first one...

1. Against a really bad loose passive player who donks into you on the river on a co-ordinated board who you figure him to have a decent TPTK or 2 pair type hand when you're sat on the nuts or close enough to it. Logic being he wants to show his hand down because hes only thinking about what hes got and nothing else but doesnt want to get stacked with such an obvious straight/flush/full house on the board but may well call a small raise

No. 2...

If you played a lot of hands when you first sat down at a table and villain is solid but looks like he likes to make moves a minraise on the flop or turn with a big hand might make him shove on you.

I dont remember the last time I minraised though.

When stack sizes make it awkward to make a full raise on the flop

i played a hand the other day where a very tight player raised utg and i called with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] otb. the flop came nine high with two clubs no st. draw he c-bet 2/3rds pot i minraised he called. i know he has an overpair now (unless he has unlikely clubs), he check i bet 2/3rds turn, he check i shove river he stacks off with qq unimproved.

kind of insignificant since i could have put in a larger raise and he prob. stack off but he was so nitty (as shown by him check/calling) i thought i could tie him to the pot with a minraise meh.

Board is xxx rainbow and low. Guy checks, you cbet AQ, stationy/donkish guy but one who's only calling here with a hand calls. He checks turn, you check behind. River is an ace. He bets 2/5th or whatever pot, like he always would with any pair off the flop on any card on the river. Minraises get called here. Real raises don't.

I have a big draw (12 outs+) vs. a passive calling station that won't fold TPNK. He leads, you min-raise the flop to get a free card. And don't worry, he won't have any idea what you're doing.

i vaguely recall soah defending postflop minraising vociferously in a thread, maybe a year ago? if he sees this and wants to find it or reiterate that would be great - i remember he laid out a lot of situations, so it could prompt discussion.

sometimes I misclick.

One of the few situations in which I intentionally miniraises is against an aggressive opponent who I think will shove a wide range over it. This comes up like 1 in 20,000 hands for me at ssnl tho. At 400 & 600nl it used to work a lot better and come up more frequently.
