Playing Professional, Tunica.

Hey guys, I am brand new to this forum and looking for some like minded and cool people to learn from. I've tried a few other forums and most of them are not helpful at all, but this one looks promising.

I am looking for people who play in Tunica professionally. I am starting to wonder if it can even be done.

I am pretty confident in my skill level so I know I'm not the problem. From my trails and experiences I have found that it is pretty difficult to get any serious career going in Tunica. I am a pretty solid tournament player and have done all right at those, but I have yet to find any consistent cash games.

Does anyone have any advice? I have played a lot during the weekends at Goldstrike and found that to be no good. Most of the players are old rich rednecks who 3 bet any draw or big card, and NEVER ever fold. A lot of loose gamblers in my state. I've found it to be decent for trapping and taking some big pots down, but my goal is consistency. I need a good cash game that I can rely on about 3 or 4 times a week for this to work.

I guess I need to play during the day time hours, right?
Does anyone know a good casino to do this? I want to play from around 2pm to 8 or 9. Is that a better plan?

If you think that players betting lots of money with bad cards is hurting you more than it's helping you, you need to abandon thoughts of playing professionally for a while, and go back to learning the fundamentals of the game.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but you need somebody to stop you in your tracks.

Well, assuming this post isn't a joke, you aren't ready to play as a professional. The best games are the ones where rich fish won't fold. You need to be a profesional-calibur player long before you do it full time. Believe me, I've played for a living for 3 years, but it's been tough, because I wasn't ready at first.

Sounds like you are playing limit, and I havent heard of GS having a regular red chip game. Are you trying to make a living at white chip limit poker?

If not, it's called the intraweb. I've heard there is always a game there.

Actually, this sounds to me EXACTLY like the strategy advice from How To Dominate $1/2 NL, where you are told to simply go home when a game is like that.

Actually, this sounds to me EXACTLY like the strategy advice from How To Dominate $1/2 NL, where you are told to simply go home when a game is like that.

WOw and that book got some really good reviews in the Books & Publications forum. The only reason to ever leave that kind of game is if you are too tired to function or if you are bankroll deficient, you might try to find a game with less variance. You definetely won't find one more profitable.

Well, thanks for the feedback, but I think you guys are missing the point.

Wrong. You must think you are going to hit your flop more than you are going to make it. Nope. You miss the flop with EVERY hand about two thirds of the time. So, if I am raising it up three times the big blind--which is 6 dollars and is a joke to these people in 1/2 nl--they reraise to 25 or 40--and I have to call with my AK or pocket tens--and then guess what, I miss the flop as you are going to do. The times I connect with the flop do not make up for the price I have to pay for the times I miss the flop in this type of game. And forget about out playing anyone--they see every river and every show down no matter what. I had a guy call me down all the way with bottom pair of fives--and no he didn't get a read on me--he was just too dumb to fold--there were straights out there, not to mention every card was an over card. I've had KK cracked several times by people holding 10 4 and making two pair because they won't fold for a 25 dollar re raise. I've had AA cracked pre-flop by 63 when he wouldn't fold to my all in bet of 125 dollars. And this type of stuff is the norm--it is not a rarity.

I guess that's the price I pay for being one of the smartest people in my state--which isn't saying much anyway. I play better against smart people than these morons. Oh well.

So anyway, thanks for the input, but I guess you guys just don't know Tunica style poker.

I know it well...very well. Sounds like you've had a bad run of cards at times. Just variance. In the end, these type of "I'm gonna run your Aces down with 10,4 off" types is where you make your money.
