The o-line is still absolutely killing us. Harrington sacked 7 times today?! He's not the most mobile QB, but still ridiculous

[/ QUOTE ]

To be fair Petrino said JH held on to the ball too long and caused some of those sacks himself. He also said JH needs to play with more confidence and quit trying to be perfect.

Why are they even talking to Leftwich?? Just write off this year and get a top 2 QB next year. Besides, JH wasn't bad the last game - passer rating of 94. Please don't spend money to go 5-11 instead of 3-13.

[/ QUOTE ]

QFT. Just play out the season with JH and get a high draft pick. Take Brohm or trade up to get him if needed.

Have you been listening to ATL sports talk radio recently? Many Falcons fans and ATL denizens are african-american, and they are generally furious over the treatment of Vick and clamoring for a black QB. I abhor the notion that race should enter the decision process at all, but many feel that it should. Reason seems to have gone out the window recently for many in the city.

Would it be bad for the franchise to acquire Leftwich? Of course. Not in the short run (we would win more games this year with him than Harrington), but we're shooting for Brohm (or at least we should be).

No, not in ATL now, but that's terrible. Really awful. The management needs to stay strong and ignore these dumb fans.

I did just check the AJC Vent. Some major racism going on there - and at least they're printing both sides.

Signing Leftwich makes sense if you did it two weeks ago OR are committed to him starting for a few years, i.e. don't take someone in draft. Otherwise it makes little sense. Just throwing bone to fans to show you are trying.

Signing him 2 weeks ago meant that a team had to guarentee him his contract. Signing him now means that a team only has to guarentee 25% of the money. It's more involved than that but that is a black and white way of saying it.

And looking at the NFC South at this moment in time, this division is up for grabs. Yeah ATL is in a bad place but there is nothing saying that this division is set in stone. Maybe a spark like a Leftwich signing can give this team something. I'll never write a team off going into week 3.

[/ QUOTE ]Didn't know about contract stuff. How soon do you figure Leftwich can start? Given how bad Harrington is you would think before bye week. Week 8 right? I think three weeks is plausbile. Division only seems winnable if Falcons can win two of next three or so. Harrington knows what it's like to play with job on line I do not think it'll affect him negatively. If anything he'll improve a bit.

Saints are playing bad, who knows when/if they snap out of it. Carolina is erratic as always. Tampa possibly best chance at this point but too early to say. Definitely cannot write off anyone in division just yet.

Still, Leftwich has a LOT of tape. If you are just grabbing him to plug in for a few weeks in desperate hope of getting into division race this is an awful move. Is it just a one year look and see? IMO you don't sign a player like him after week two just for upgrade when your chances are slim regardless of how bad rest of teams are doing in division.

Damn - they signed him.

Seems like they operpaid as well considering he's not very good, injury prone, and not exactly in demand by any other teams.
