Re: Dice
[ QUOTE ]
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6M9C6a1K0nI contains bad language [/ QUOTE ] Great bit of self promotion. A CNN interview with him would be of mild interest at best if he did not react in this over-the-top manner. This way, he gets the possibility of more attention without at all hurting his image. |

Re: Dice
[ QUOTE ]
He was hilarious back in the day and stirred up a lot of hate, which is often itself an indicator of something good. It was especially good then, when media was stuck in an insipid PC quagmire. Agreed that some of the people taking him literally was very dumb. Unfortunately, the climate of PC was so strong back then and he picked up so much hate that it all but crushed his career. More unfortunately, he thought he found a way to get out of it by rolling over and saying he was really a sweet fellow, so he could do a sitcom showing him as a sweeter fellow. When he did that, he lost his base and so didn't really have much left. [/ QUOTE ] surely you don't think that Dice's career would've been long-lasting without the media backlash, right? He was a gimmick and everything he did that wasn't standup misfired horribly. |

Re: Dice
Quick aside: does anyone remember the awesomely degen B-flick Night Patrol, featuring Linda Blair (!) as an officer named Sue Perman, the midget Billy Barty as the commander of the officers, and Murray Langston playing both an officer and his stage act, the Unknown Comic? I looked at the imdb page and remembered the movie also has Pat Morita playing a rape victim (female's voice dubbed in). Hilarious film from what I remember.
Anyway, Dice Clay had a bit part playing his own obnoxious persona in the film, but was credited as "Andy Clay". |

Re: Dice
When I was a freshman in high school I was a big Dice fan. I saw him at the Worcester Centrum in 1987 or 1988 when he was at the height of his career, packing stadiums, etc. I bought a t-shirt at that show and, although she refuses to admit it, I believe my mother stole it and threw it away.
Cut to roughly 18 years later, and Andrew Clay comes into my office to talk about representation. It's in my top five worst meetings of all time. Although both of my partners were in the meeting, after hearing that I was once a fan Dice spoke to me and me only while my partners just sat there. Also, he got up from the couch he was sitting on almost immediately and stood for the rest of the meeting while the rest of us were sitting. So he does the whole meeting like he's doing stand up, with the whole arm thing, except it's not comedy, he's mostly just bitching about being misunderstood. And he's sweating profusely the entire time. So I end up representing him, and learn that most people really, really, hate Andrew Dice Clay. Other Dice stuff: He passed on "The Surreal Life". |

Re: Dice
Dice needs a complete makeover. Zebra parachute pants and the pork chops aren't cutting it anymore.
