Default Symbols of common men coming together.

The most obvious one is the revolutionary war and the gadsden flag:

There are also the firemen of 9/11

Then there are the massive amounts of donations made by Americans each year but there's not exactly an appropriate symbol for that.

What are some really good symbols of everyday people coming together to overcome some enormous difficulty?

I'm posting this in politics because I figure the anarchos would be all over this kind of stuff.

Well it's a question and there's a specific answer I'm looking for. How should I have worded the title?

I'm sorry Ms. Cartman, but I have some very bad news to inform you of. Your son is... deeply stupid. Nurse, remove his facewarmer please. You've been in a coma for... two days.

Common people aren't really encouraged to come together. Anytime there is a major rally in DC or other places, the media tends to downplay the numbers and importance of it.

here is mine:

The top story on dailykos right now is the most ironic thing I have seen in a couple months. The supporters of the party of big government are complaining.... that new government regulations and rules are inefficient and harming the distribution of passports. Ah, I see, so new rules on who gets a passport and who doesn't... are going to result in a backlog and delays when things are left up to the state... brilliant! I think this newfangled concept may spill over to other subjects!
