From what I understand, Kobayashi shattered his previous personal best from this competition, but still didn't come close. Very cool Joey.

This year was Chestnut's year- he's been devouring the IFOCE circuit. He came in with something to prove and finally gave Koby someone to push him. It was a near-perfect day in terms of weather. Try eating 60+ dogs on a 90+ degree day- it just won't happen. Eating 66 dogs in 12 mins is eating each dog in just over 10 seconds- there isn't much room to improve over that.
Just my two cents, but I'd bet the house we won't see 70 next year.

Given the upward trend on the attendance, its possible that next year's competition will be indoors. I know MSG has been mentioned by the Nathan's more than once.

Also, I watched the 1998 contest last night. Some little Japanese dude (not Koby) won with a whopping 14!!! hotdogs.

Kobayashi was only 3 behind. I'd call that close.

At the finish it looked like a virtual tie at 63. They had to go back and look at the tape to see that Chestnut had actually eaten 3 more.

How great is it that with the placard girls and judges standing right in front of/next to him, that Chestnut managed to eat 3 hotdogs that weren't accounted for? His eating exceeded the speed of light!

The "C" in E=MC2 stands for "Chestnut", obviously.
