Backpacking in WY / Gear List

Badger,

are you really thinking of bringing crampons/ice axe/gators? i think there's close to zero chance of you finding a spot in Wyoming where you'll need these this time of year.

And i don't mean to pile on Boris, but not bringing raingear would be pretty stupid.

rj- I've been meaning to get one of those. Not this trip, due to the gf, as you mentioned.

Stranger- definitely not worth the weight.

rj- I might pick some up. I'm gonna see what bear traffic is like where I am. If nothing else I have my whistle. You know the difference between grizzly poop and black bear poop? Grizzly poop has bear whistles in it.

Fedfan- For sure! I had a camera break on me in Chile- that was frustrating. Luckily I was with my buddy who maintains a pretty nice website.

td- You're correct, absolutely not for this trip. Just trying to get all my gear on the list, as well as gear that I didn't have.

I'm off to the airport soon. Didn't go to bed tonight. Oops.

rj - for me the decision isn't so much the weight of my pack but how much true bushwhacking I have planned. For off trail hiking I recommend White's Boots and I couldn't give a stronger endorsement. Once you break these babies in you will have zero complaints.

I've used Gore-Tex waders for the last 5 years - they get plenty dirty and take a$$ loads of abuse and have NEVER leaked.

What?!?! Have you heard of a Gore-Tex shell? VERY lightweight, completely waterproof, and great for layering over a fleece jacket.

Chapstick. This one definitely should have been in my pack. The trip went great. I also made it to Arches National Park. I may post some pics.

So I'm not really going to write up a whole trip report as it was a pretty standard backpacknig trip. Here's a pretty picture:


However, what might be of interest to some is the website my roommate just released- MyOutdoors.net, which allows users to create journal entries with google maps and then add info and pictures. The map editor is really nice. It's low content now as it's just released. Here's the link to my WY hike:

Last summer I was in wyoming on holiday and I saw one of the most beautiful girls ever working in a shopping centre- she was one of the very very few people Iv seen sober that I could safely say was a perfect 10. screw hiking, go find here- You have enough info

you, personally, should always have a map and compass, and a whistle is a good idea too. also some cronic.
