I know that the place I work allows only one straddle. Everything else is just a blind raise.

[/ QUOTE ] One of my favorite recent hands (because it's one of my few winners) happened at a super loose $10-$150 table where straddling was so standard players started putting in blind raises. One super loose fish (SLF) puts in a $60 blind raise after the straddle. A known super-LAG makes (SLAG) it $160 on the button. In the small blind I re-pop it to $310 with AKo, knowing I have to be crushing his range. Big blind folds, straddle folds, SLF decides to call $250 cold. SLAG re-pops it $150, leaving himself less than $150. Oops. Still I try to raise to get SLF to put more money in or fold, but for the first time I can remember, we have hit the raise cap preflop in this game. So I call, SLF calls. Flop is low cards, two diamonds (I have the ace of diamonds). I know SLAG is getting it all in, so I decide to bet $150 to see if I can lose SLF. Call, call all-in. Turn blank, check, check. River king. I bet, SLF folds(!). SLAG turns over QQ. I rake in a $1800-ish pot. Straddles are fun, for everyone.

I play in a weekly 1/3 NL game that rotates week to week. an UTG straddle is allowed but restraddling is allowed and quite common. It is not unusual for the straddle to reach $48.
It creates action in the game and can be used for deception. A tight player new to a game can straddle to give himself a table image to exploit.
