The problem with the WBC is that it's not really a true test of which team is the best. Baseball is a sport where any team can win on any given day (provided the difference in skill level between teams isn't TOO huge). It's much more likely for the worst team in a league to beat the best team in baseball than it is in the other major sports. When one loss can eliminate a team from the Classic, that's not right.

I'm not sure that it's a "problem." It's sort of like football. Do we complain that the Steelers won the Super Bowl, even though the Colts were the better team during the season? No. The beauty of it is the 1 and done system. While I'd rather see a 3-game series, that'd take way too long to complete. It's about who can play the best game on a given day, not just who is the best team on paper.

Looks like the US is pretty much out. Korea needs to beat Japan, or at least score 8+ runs in a loss.

Korea already beat Japan once and hasn't lost a game yet. Although if I was Korea I would throw the game to knock out the US.
