Default lansing,MI ...Trippers bar charity event trip report

I went and checked out the charity poker events at Trippers in E. Lansing saturday night. I found out about it from nextpokergame.com from a friend who has checked out the Grand Rapids event.

My table was filled with a couple solid players, 3 or 4 that knew just enough to get themselves in trouble and a couple that walked in from the bar and didn't have to much of a clue.

The rake is donated to whatever charity is hosting it that evening. I was playing 1/2 NL max buy-in $100. The rake was up to $5 but there was no time charge. The dealer I had was average but I think it is just volunteers so I guess you can't expect too much.

Was curious if any of you have been checked this out and what you thought of it? I was only there 3 hours and it seemed like it could be a little honey hole to play at. I live in Fowlerville and I know I like that 1/2 hour drive a lot more than the hour drive to Detroit or the almost 2 hour drive to Soaring Eagle.

hopefully some of you have bben and I can get your feelings about the whole deal.

thanks and will probably see you up there next weekend

I play there every weekend, good mix of players kinda more top heavy than im used to... casino games in detroit are easier. Lots of regs though good little set up close to home hope to see ya up there sometime (royal scott blows compared to trippers though)

They fixed that like a month into it a lot of people called charitable gaming commission to get it changed. It was interesting to see people bet 2 bucks into pots of 100+ to try to get raised and then end up getting just called or folded to

Rake is actually max 6! crazy. Anyway, sometimes we can get a 2-5 game going which is good OBV. The problem is they are only allowed to sell a certain amount of chips so on busy nights they can't do it.

Also, Royal Scot just added round by round PLO/NLHE, still only 1-2 though.

I've played the Grand Rapids (DeltaPlex) and Muskegon (GL Downs) locations on several occasions. The play really depends on the night and table selection, just like anywhere I suppose, but overall the level of play is much worse than at the casinos I've played.

The 1-2 game can get really crazy if you get on a table with a couple of the rich LAG's that are regularly at the tables. I've seen guys lose 4-6 buy-ins in 2 hours regularly. I haven't seen a lot of TAG play. Its mostly LP, with some TP and LAG mixed in. It's hard not to make good money when you play a solid TAG game. The only times I've been hurt is when I have gotten a bit too passive.
