WTF huge overbet shove pre
25-50$, game just got heads up. Opponent is 28/15. No particular reads, he seems decent/normal.
Opponent limps button. I raise to 225 with XX Opponent shoves for $5200 What hand range are you calling here? BTW this isnt a hypothetical question, it just happened a few minutes ago. Just wondering what range others think is reasonable to call here. |

Re: WTF huge overbet shove pre
Same exact thing happened to me once in a 5/10 HU game that had just started. Since I was lucky enough to have AA at the time I called and he turned over AKs. If Villain is decent I think he has [AK, TT+] and is giving you a "donk-test". I'd call only with AK, JJ+, but then again I'm a nit. |

How about this hand that actually happened?
you're playing a guy 25/50 HU and he seems pretty good, not tilting, no major pots recently. His sb/bn, he shoves for 5k. Whatcha need here? |

JJ+, AK seems about right. [/ QUOTE ] Why include JJ in the range? I doubt JJ is rarely better than a flip. Seems QQ+, AK is better. |

If you think he has AK, TT+, then why would you call with AK? You arent ahead of anything, so why not just call with JJ+? [/ QUOTE ] We don't want to be ahead, we want to make a profitable call. Assuming we have villain covered, we need to call $4975 to win a $10400 pot. This means we need at least about 48% equity to make a profitable call. If his range is [TT+, AKo, AKs] then it is actually profitable to call with [TT+, AKo, AKs, AQs] because of the money already in the pot. (Pokerstove gives us 48.7% equity). Therefore, my initial calling requirements were indeed wrong, because they were too tight, not too loose. The real problem is Villain's range. Is he has [QQ+ AK, AKs] then our call becomes very unprofitable and we need at least the same range to call. |

Re: WTF huge overbet shove pre
Preflop is easy. Put him on a range. Pokerstove it.
If he's shoving TT+ and AK, it's a call with QQ+ only. Change the frequencies of the pairs, AA/KK especially, and it gets more interesting. |
