Default Tracing fake text messages/emails?

By bud is messing with someone pretty bad and sent me the link to this "service"

Im just wonering if you tech guys know is fake text messages/emails can be traced back somehow? Seems like you could really cause some serious havoc to someone if you start sending emails to their boss, wife, mother, etc. Especially when the the "senders" email address/cell # actually belongs to the person that you're messing with. Pretty f-ed up, right?

This has been aroudn forever, man, this takes me back to when I was in high school and read the guides to mostly harmless hacking. Its pretty simple, and there is a way to see if it really is comming from the real source, but 99% of your average user wont know what too look for in the headers. You probably cant trace it to the prankster though, unless you have access to the webservers iplogs.
