If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.

"In order to live, you must be willing to die" applies mostly to tournament poker.

'Fit or Fold' is a common one.

'Third raise is Aces or Kings' or something similar tends to be true.

Of varying degrees of usefulness and truthfulness:


Play opposite of the table. (be loose at tight table, etc)

No Limit Holdem rewards bold and aggressive play.

Play the player, not the cards.

Never open limp.

Standard.

Better players get sucked out on more often.
