Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film
Most of my favorites have been mentioned already. I'll spare you all and not repeat them.
Matchstick Men : When Nick Cage finds out that his "daughter" whom he'd fallen in love with and changed his life for, wasn't really his daughter. One year later she comes in to the carpet store where he works and they have an exchange and she calls him "Dad". This scene really got me. |

Re: Come and See
I'm glad everyone "enjoyed" the film. The movie should be much better known. The film defines the statement "important work of art".
Another film that hasn't been seen enough is the French TV miniseries "Maison des bois, La" (1971) English Title: The House in the Woods. It tells the story of a French family during WWI, directed by Maurice Pialat. It is seven one hour episodes. Simply told, beautiful, and heartbreaking. I saw this over three weekends at a revue theatre. Unfortunately I don't see it anywhere on DVD or VHS. I have never seen a whole theatre sob like we did on the later episodes. |

Re: Come and See
A lot of what I would say has already been said but here are a couple:
Downfall when one of Goebbel's daughters doesn't want to drink from the cup because she knows its poison but they make her drink it anyway Full Metal Jacket when Pyle gets hit by soap in socks then you hear him sobbing in a giant quiet dorm. Apocalypse Now when Tyrone (Laurence Fishbourne) gets killed while a tape from his mom is playing. |

Re: Come and See
For me it would have to be the end of Apocalypse Now when the credits were running and the big screen was filled with flames. I have never seen a movie crowd act like I saw in that theatre. Total silence with everyone still seated. the only thing anyone said, until the credits were over, was someone telling the one person who stood up to leave to sit down about 1/2 way through the credits.

[ QUOTE ]
In general...."The Deer Hunter". Specifically.....The Christopher Walkien "Russian Roulette" scene. I've seen the movie just once, and will never watch it again. It takes my mind to places where I don't ever want to go again. [/ QUOTE ] This. Couldn't have summed it up any better. My wife bought me the 25 years gold DVD of this film and it's never been opened. I love the film, De Niro is superb but Walken is just ultra-cool. 15 years after first seeing this film I just can't watch it because of the way Walken goes. I do feel much better thinking about when they were both holded up, captive and playing Russian Roulette and they over power the mutha's who held them. Sophie's Choice kills me. Never ever will I watch this film either. So devistating. |

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film
Can't pick just one...
* From my favorite movie, the final scene of "Y Tu Mama Tambein." They go from being two great friends to mere acquaintances over the events of the film. The narrator's last line is what gets me. "They will never meet each other again." * The entire running time of "United 93." * The end of "Kids" where nothing is better. * Surprisingly, the first season of "Nip/Tuck" when Megan O'Hara kills herself after her cancer comes back. * And yeah, "My Dog Skip" made me cry when I first saw it in elementary school. A few that were already mentioned that definitely got me: * End of Requiem for a Dream * End of American History X * End of Big Fish (definitely cried a bit there). * Lennie in "Of Mice And Men," though I haven't seen a film version. |
