Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
Very nice post. It reminds people who overanalyze, like me, to not dwell on those marginal decisions that did not go your way.

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
The "Things that Don't Matter" section is quite an eye-opener to me, so thanks for that.

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
[ QUOTE ]
1. "Tough" Decisions. If you're playing a hand and you hit a really really tough spot and you just can't figure out what's the best move - it doesn't matter! If it's truly a tough decision, that means the EV of the choices is nearly the same! Yes, you might lose a huge pot because you made the wrong decision in this particular case, but if you're thinking about the range of hands it was actually EV neutral. These sort of "tough" decisions are fun to analyze because they're very close and complicated, but the fact is they have almost zero effect on your win rate. You'll see these some times when you post a hand and good/respected posters disagree about the best move. Maybe there is in fact one move that's better than others, but it's a very small EV difference. [/ QUOTE ] Can we all concur that this statement is correct? |

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
Honestly, I don't think this applies as much to nowadays games as they did to the old games. In today's games, to be a big winner, or even a marginal winner, the tough decisions matter a lot. Folding KK postflop in a 3 bet pot is almost unforgiveable. Your ability to play marginal situations matters a ton. And the whole 3 bet concept is so much more prevalant that unfortunately that too has to be addressed ad naseum.
Don't get me wrong, it was, and still is, a great post, but a lot of the "don't matter things" matter in a world where 10 ptbb/100 isn't a "I'm sleeping while doing it" thing like it was at party. |
